TREASURER’S REPORT: KA2D reported the balances of the GSBARC accounts.

MEMBERSHIP: CURRENT - No Report @ time of meeting. KA2D has provided N2MIG with an updated membership based upon current dues records.

N2MUN expressed thanks to KC2FBV for recording the minutes of the June 2002 General meeting.

CORRESPONDENCE: June Bank statement, Dues received from K2ZDX. 

NETS: 2 meter .... N2UHR reports that the number of checkins are good for this time of year. KA2RGI recently did the DX report. 10 meter ... no report. Swap n Shop ... On hiatus until September. Anyone wishing to volunteer as net control is invited to jump in  

EDUCATION: N2MUN reports that there are plans for 2 upcoming classes.

9/11/2002 - EXTRA

KA2RGI made a motion for the club to purchase some of the ARRL TECH & the NEW Extra books noting that Radio Shack has stopped carrying them. KA2D seconded this motion after a discussion came to an estimated total of 5 Extra Books & 4 Technician Book (Bulk discounts apply).

 GUEST SPEAKERS & PROGRAMS: July Meeting - OPEN. Currently Lester Shine showed interest in possibly speaking about LaFayette in the Fall (Sept./Oct.)  KA2RGI suggested a possible demonstration.on repeater test equipment. Membership present expressed interest.

 COMPASS: N2MUN reports that the newsletter is going well at this time.

GSBARC WEB PAGE: KA2D reported the inclusion of new photos covering Field Day 2002 & the recent Air Power Museum Event. KA2D also mentioned the updating of latest club events included classes & DXCC Card checking. N2UHR offered to make CDs of the photo pages for those with limited net access.

 CLUB STATION & EQUIPMENT: KA2RGI reported that Field Day gave the club a chance to exercise the equipment. No new status.
WA2QAV queried as to the whereabouts of the Kenwood 430 operating manual. Discussion followed.
N2MUN had contacted Hy-Gain about obtaining a new trap for the Hy-Gain DX-77. Estimated Cost: $67.50 + S&H (Not to exceed $100.00 total). Counterpoise and 12 Meter trap repair/replace discussion followed. KA2D motioned to buy a new trap. KA2RGI seconded the motion ... adding that the club should inquire  if additional modifications were available. Vote was unanimous in favor ... noting that the funds would come from the misc. repair fund already set in place.

LIBRARY: WA2UJI reported no new additions at this time.

 APPAREL: KC2EGK informed us that shirts need to be ordered by the dozen from thesupplier. KA2RGI noted particular interest to quality shirts with collars & pockets (polo shirts). 

REPEATERS: KA2RGI reported on the temporary hold-up on the town tower progress. Also indicated was that other tower tenants have halted their system updates in the same "wait-and-see" attitude as GSBARC
2 Meter: Discussion ensued about the Micor radio obtained from former EMS Service that will be prepared for amateur service. Costs range from $500 to get the radio set for amateur service to $600 to buy a pre-done unit. Board agreed that a refurbished one would probably be best.. N2MUN requested KA2RGI put together an estimated listed of preferences and an estimated time frame.
220 Repeater: K2TV is having a tech crew check the eqipment with particular emphasis on the needed relay.
440 Repeater: Currently running. Needs a power supply replacement as KA2RGI has put in a temporary replacement. KA2D has offered a longer-term replacement. 

DX & CONTESTING: KA2D gave details on recent contests including:

N2UHR has noted that K2TV has a stamp (NA-026) available for club  member use if they wish participate in this RSGB contest.

 N2MUN has also noted that we will have DXCC card checking on 8/8/2002 at 7PM in the EOC.

VE SESSIONS: KA2D reported the next session will be held noon on July 28. 

ARES/RACES: KA2RGI reported on the recent TOBARES web page updates including new pictures. KA2RGI made note of the following:

09/08 - Babylon Village Beautification Society Country Fair

KA2RGI made note of the upcoming TOBARES meeting.
Walt reported that TOBARES currently has plans underway to hold a hamfest in October 2002 (10/27/2002).
KA2RGI respectfully requested the use of the W2GSB repeater for hamfest talk-in.. The Board Accepted the request

Dom WA2UJI recently represented amateur radio at the US Post Office open house that was held 6/30/02.

HEALTH & WELFARE: Well wishes to Pete N2GBM & his entire family at this time.  N2MUN requested KC2FBV to send a thank you card.

FIELD DAY: At this time, the only outstanding item is the satellite reports from K2JY ... to be postmarked by 7/23/02.

All members and guests introduced themselves. 

MINUTES: Minutes of the previous board meeting were accepted as printed in the Compass by KA2RGI and seconded by WA2UJI.

Recording Secretary N2GBM announced that due to a change in his work schedule, he might not be able to attend some of the board meetings and general meetings for the rest of the year. KC2FBV will fill in when Pete isn’t there. 

TREASURER’S REPORT: KA2D reported the balances of the GSBARC accounts.  

MEMBERSHIP: KC2JGH was welcomed as a new member. 

CORRESPONDENCE: QSL cards from various events, newsletters from Larkfield ARC and Radio Central  ARC, a letter from AB2JW about his recently published book, and it’s availability to GSBARC members. Letter was read by KC2FBV. 

NETS:
2 Meter net is up and running.
10 Meter net had 2 check ins this week.
Swap n Shop – is off the air for the summer. A net control will be needed for this net when it resumes in September.

EDUCATION: A technician class will start on Sept. 10, and an extra class will start on Sept. 11.

GUEST SPEAKERS & PROGRAMS:  N2MUN is trying to arrange to have Lester, WA2LIC, speak about the early days of Lafayette Radio. 

COMPASS: Per N2MUN, the new system of making the Compass available on the web is working well. 

GSBARC WEB PAGE: KA2D says the page contains the latest updated information. 

CLUB STATION & EQUIPMENT: A new trap for one of the club antennas has been ordered. 

 LIBRARY: Nothing new per WA2UJI, librarian.

 APPAREL: No report.

 REPEATERS: The 2 meter repeater is running about the same. KA2RGI says there is no date from the town on when the rest of the tower work will be completed.  KA2RGI gave details of the possibility of obtaining a new radio to replace the one currently operating in the repeater. The radio would be modified to work in our repeater by the company that sells it. The cost would be $650, which would include set up. Once ordered, it would take about 4-6 weeks to be ready. A motion was made by KA2RGI to purchase the Motorola Mycor with set up. The motion was seconded by N2NGE. Following discussion, the motion was voted on by the membership and passed with no objections. KA2RGI expressed thanks to KB2AZY for his assistance he has given with the present repeater. The 440 repeater is up and working, and the 220 repeater is down and is being worked on by K2TV.  

DX & CONTESTING: KA2D gave details of upcoming contests. Tom says to listen to the Monday night 2 meter net for the latest DX news. 

VE SESSIONS: The next VE session will be July 28. The new Extra pool questions will be used.

ARES/RACES: ICS training was given at Yaphank this past week. The Babylon Country Fair will be held at Argyle Lake on Sept. 8. The Jewish Arts Festival of Long Island has been discontinued. No further plans to have one. The annual picnic with GSBARC will be held on Aug. 24.

FIELD DAY: KA2D says the field day report has been received by the ARRL. Everyone agreed that the car port tent worked out well. KA2RGI says there was a bit a damage due to the wind. Walter also pointed out that this tent takes up quite a bit of storage space.

HAMFESTS: KA2RGI says the plan to have an outdoor hamfest at the Great South Bay shopping center will have to be abandoned. The mall owners do not permit events like this on their property. A new site will have to be located.

OTHER BUSINESS: The Fire Island Lighthouse event will take place on Aug. 17-18. Computers for logging will have to be borrowed. A trip to the ARRL is planned for Aug. 2, leaving KA2RGI’s house at 5:30 am.

KA2D described some changes to QST. Section news and contest scores will no longer be printed, but will be available on the web.

Skywarn recognition day will be held at the NWS on Dec. 7. GSBARC will again provide equipment. The call for the special event station will be K2U.

KA2RGI and KC2EXP each showed Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone the article in QST about the recent visit by Rep. Steve Israel to a special GSBARC meeting.

Emil will be at the EOC on Aug. 8, prior to the board meeting, to check QSL cards.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM.

The 50/50 pool was won by N2UHR. Total amount was $30. Dave donated his share back to the club.
